Recell’s certified battery remanufacturing process restores battery performance and reliability at a fraction of the cost of a battery replacement. Using advanced diagnostics, precision cell matching and rigorous testing, our goal is not only to get your Model S or Model X back on the road, but to keep it there.
Every battery pack remanufactured by Recell undergoes a rigorous inspection, certification and testing process. Our technicians identify degraded, out-of-spec and failure-prone components and restore each battery pack to strict quality and performance standards. Precision cell matching using advanced Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) diagnostic technology helps ensure exceptional performance, reliability and long-term durability.
And all our remanufactured battery packs use only genuine Tesla parts including Type 85 / 90 battery modules developed by Tesla, ensuring compatibility, reliability and performance.
A certified remanufactured battery pack from Recell can save thousands of dollars compared to complete battery replacement. With savings of up to 60% versus a replacement battery pack from Tesla, many owners recover their investment in as little as 18 months.
We proudly warranty all our remanufactured battery packs for up to 4 years or 50,000 miles. Proven reliability. No guesswork.
Please note that prices above do not include shipping. If shipping is needed, discounted transportation will be included as part of your final invoice. Battery range can typically be restored to 85% or more of its range prior to failure. Actual battery performance, energy capacity and range will vary based on vehicle configuration, driving behavior, battery condition and previous usage history.
The base cost for a new replacement battery pack for a Model S/X from Tesla is $21,000 plus sales tax; the base cost for a remanufactured battery pack from Tesla is $14,500 plus sales tax, provided one is available - remanufactured battery packs are not always available from Tesla and will depend on the ability of your local Tesla Service Center to source a remanufactured battery.
Why Do You Do This?
Our goal is simple: to get your Tesla back on the road for thousands less. We’ve built our business around supporting out-of-warranty Teslas and have logged thousands of hours working on Tesla battery packs - we know them inside out.
Do You Offer Pack Upgrades?
We wish the answer were different, but unless you're battery pack has malfunctioned or no longer working, the short answer is no.
While a pack upgrade sounds compelling, it isn't very cost effective, especially if your current battery pack is still working. Longer range packs with greater capacity need to be sourced individually, and that usually means from a salvage car that may have been in an accident or written off by an insurance company. And even from a salvage yard, long range packs are still very expensive - for what still amounts to a used battery pack...
When all is said and done, it’s usually far more cost effective to continue using your existing battery pack until it reaches the end of its useful life and then have it remanufactured by Recell.
How Do You Repair A Battery Pack? Do You Just Swap Out the Defective Battery Module, Close It Back Up And Call It Done?
No. Unlike a repair shop, we do not simply replace a defective module and send the battery back out the door. There's no module swapping, not ever. And every battery pack undergoes a comprehensive remanufacturing, certification and testing process. Our technicians identify degraded, out-of-spec and failure-prone components, restore the battery pack to strict quality and performance standards, and then subject it to rigorous testing before returning it to service.
Do You Use Salvage Cars for Battery Packs Replacements?
No, we generally avoid salvage cars that may have been in an accident or written off by an insurance company. The battery modules inside all our remanufactured battery packs have been sitting side-by-side, undamaged and untouched, in the same battery case that they left the factory in. The only time we offer a salvage pack to a customer is if they need a specific battery configuration that is not yet available out of warranty.
Do I Get A Credit For My Existing Battery?
Because Recell remanufactures your existing battery pack, there is no separate core charge or battery credit. The price of our remanufactured battery remanufacturing is the same regardless of the age or mileage of your battery pack.
If You Replace the Parts In My Battery Pack, What Are You Replacing Them With?
We offer only fully tested and certified battery packs, and we only use genuine Tesla parts in all our remanufactured battery packs. And unlike a repair shop, we do not simply replace a defective module and send the battery back out the door.

How Long Does It Take to Have a Battery Remanufactured?
Servicing times can vary, but once your vehicle is at a Recell service center, turnaround time generally ranges from a few days to a week, depending on the exact issue and current workload at our service center. If it’s a straightforward rebuild, you can be back on the road in no time, often the next day!
Can I Just Buy a Battery Pack From You and Have Another Shop Install It?
Practically speaking, it’s just easier (and safer!) to ship your Model S/X instead of just the battery – high voltage battery packs are heavy, cumbersome and can be easily damaged or become unsafe if not handled properly. More importantly, all service, including installation, performed on a Recell battery pack MUST be performed at a Recall service center.

Will the Entire Vehicle Be Needed for Warranty Service? Can’t I Just Ship You the Battery Pack?
Practically speaking, it’s just easier (and safer!) to ship your Model S/X instead of just the battery – high voltage battery packs are heavy, cumbersome and can be easily damaged or become unsafe if not handled properly. More importantly, we require the entire vehicle present at a Recell service center in order to certify the battery. Unfortunately, there are NO exceptions. Removal of the battery pack at any other location other than a Recell service center, including a Tesla Service Center, voids the battery pack warranty.
I Live in Canada, Can I Still Get My Battery Pack Remanufactured by Recell?
Yes! We offer remanufactured battery packs for both Canada and Mexico as well.
I Just Ran A Software Update and the Graphics On My Center Console Have Changed - My Model S 85 Changed to a Model S 70/75. What Happened?
While not common, the graphics on the Center Console of your Model S/X may be inadvertently updated due to a limitation in Tesla's vehicle software. Rest assured however, the performance of your Model S/X has not been altered in any way - your Model S/X drive train remains exactly the same and it still has the exact same off-the-line performance as it's always had. Furthermore, your battery pack will continue to deliver the exact same power and range as outlined in our performance specs above. There is absolutely no impact to your vehicle's performance or range.
The Power Meter on My Instrument Panel Sometimes Has a Dotted Line on It. Is There a Problem With My Model S/X?
No, your Model S/X is doing just fine. The dotted line on your Power Meter simply displays in real-time how much power is currently available from your battery pack. Rest assured, the performance of your Model S/X has not been altered in any way - it still has the exact same off-the-line performance as it's always had, and your battery pack will continue to deliver the exact same power and range as outlined in our performance specs above. There is absolutely no impact to your vehicle's performance or range.
With a Remanufactured Battery Pack, Do I Need to Sign Any Waivers?
No. Not. Ever. We never require a waiver and anyone asking you to sign one should make you pause. Our approach is very clear, we focus on reliability, safety and serviceability, using 100% OEM software. No roots, no hacks, not ever.
What Information Do You Collect, and Do You Require a Remote Monitoring Device to Be Installed?
We only collect information about the battery pack when it’s at one of our service centers, and even then, we only collect the information that we need on file to support our certification – like how many miles are on the battery pack, how many times it’s been charged and how much, the date it was put back into service, etc., etc. There are NO remote monitoring devices, NO communication whatsoever with your battery or your vehicle once it leaves one of our service centers. We have no way of collecting any additional information on the battery pack, you, or your car. That’s intentional. Your personal information is yours and yours alone, we have no interest in anyone’s personal information.
Do You Sell My Email or Personal Information to Other Companies?
Nope. Not. Ever.
